Adam
Who am I? This is a question we all wrestle with. Some of us spend a lifetime trying to figure this out. For most of us, who we are has been told to us by others, and we are trying to live up to it. But for some, they are trying to make themselves into who they think they’re supposed to be. Maybe according to family expectations, or those of a friend group, or society as a whole. But, in reality, there is only One, our Maker, who can tell us who we really are, our true identity. And, it’s only our creator who can tell us what our individual purposes are in this world.
Adam, the first man, which is what his name means, is the initial representative of all mankind. He is made in the image of God (Gen. 1:26-27) and given a unique purpose in this world as ruler of creation on God’s behalf (Gen. 1:28). Adam, from the get go, knew who he was and why he was. So, what happened? How and why did he disobey as he exchanged the truth for lies? Are there things for us to see, lessons for us to learn in Genesis chapters 1-3 that will help us understand and resolve our confusion due to the lies we unwittingly believe and the truth we so desperately need to know?
Well let’s read Genesis chapters 1-3 and take a closer look.
