James 1:1: "James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. To the twelve tribes scattered among the nations: Greetings."
In this first verse of the book we see to whom James, the brother of Jesus, is writing. It is the twelve Jewish tribes that have been scattered.
Although America is not a tribal society, we sure are scattered! Just think of the people you have known that have moved out of your area! With increased technology and mobility, our society has become less relational, and more directional! Although to some travel is exciting, and change is an "adrenalin rush", we need to remember that we are built to get close to one another and share what God has done in our lives.
Meditate On This!
Take a moment to write down a list of people who have moved out of your life in the last five years. How about the last ten years? Do you know where they are right now? Is there a way you can be in touch with them? If so, why not ask the Lord to show you a favorite verse to share with them. See if He can bring back a relationship that has been eliminated or minimized because of the scattering nature of our lifestyle.
By the way, did you know that our sovereign God has allowed that scattering? It is not by happenstance, and maybe today God has revealed that to you and how you need to stay in touch with those you have known over the years.
